Author | David Hume |
This text comprises sixteen essays written between 1752 and 1760 in a conversational tone which, more often than not, deal with economical issues. As their opening informs the reader, they don’t summon the « superficial thought », but the « deep thought » occupied with « general matters ». For Hume tackles economy as a philosopher ; and his aim is to underline a skeptical naturalism against all kinds of metaphysical (i. e. theological, teleological and contractual) venture which try to contain the unbounded development of industry that the Political Discourses conceive as the modern passion. |
